I lived in a DC row house for 6 years, and I’m writing this comment from my tiny 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan, where I moved 1 year ago. Yes, I spent a ton of money furnishing my 2500 sqft DC row house, which is way more than I spent on my 400 sqft apartment in Manhattan. This has little to do with cost of living, but it has so much to do with space. This chart should be entitled Most Expensive US City to Fill Your House with Stuff.
