The debate over whether it’s cheaper to rent or buy a house is complicated (where you buy, down payment, size of house, etc). But looking at median prices across the nation and current insanely low mortgage rates can make now look like the best time in a while to buy. I think this is true but the sad part is that banks (whom we bailed out with our tax money) are not lending to middle-class citizens now because their previous risky business failed and their extra timid. So what these low mortgage costs do is allow earthy people to snatch up housing super cheap and become even richer through vast real estate ownership. So the rich get richer.
