11 Mar 2011The 2008 American Religious Identification Survey has some interesting statistics on the atheists, agnostics, and “spiritual but not religious” among us. Interestingly, non-belief in god does not seem to correlate with income, education, political party, or your upbringing – but is most strongly related to age and gender. Somewhat bizarrely, 33% of the “nones” are of Irish descent. (via Sociological Images)

I wondered who the “Nones” were and looked it up in the publication. They are “the no-religion segment of the U.S. population.” That is, people who may or may not believe in a god, but in any case do not identify with any particular religion.

I do not understand the first chart/table. Who comprises the two categories? Are the “nones” the subset of the us adult population that are aethiest, agnostics, etc as described in the text? Does the U.S. adult population include the “nones”.
Its an extremely poorly labeled chart. If “nones” are the nonreligious why do 27% believe in a personal god?
Come on, lets make things clear here.
