Safest Seat on a Plane

1 Oct 2012Based on a Popular Mechanics review of every commercial jet crash in the United States since 1971, that had both fatalities and survivors.
In 11 of the 20 crashes, rear passengers clearly fared better. Only five accidents favored those sitting forward. Three were tossups, with no particular pattern of survival. In one case, seat positions could not be determined.

I guess that’s why they put Business Class/First Class in the front of the plane. Lower person density in the deadliest areas… 😉
Cool idea for a vis, but the result doesn’t have a lot of flavour. Too bad there wasn’t enough data to provide a more satisfying gradient within the cabins.

Considering the data is commercial plane crashes, I’m very happy we don’t have more data.
