What Makes it Worth While

I receive so many emails full of marketing-speak and copies of horrible link-bait infoposters I almost overlooked the below email from a fan:

Dear Dustin

I’m a teacher in Kenya. We struggle to get textbooks and our internet is very slow, but I wanted to thank you for your wonderful site which enables me to share brilliant graphics and thought provoking data with my students. Out here in Sub saharan Africa we sometimes feel a bit peripheral to what is going on in the rest of the world, but your images help our kids to feel in touch (and save busy teachers a lot of time trawling through the net)

Thanks again

<Sigh> It feels so good to know my work here is accomplishing more than providing fodder for snarky graphic designers and bloggers.

Put a smile on my face. It is amazing what a difference you can make without even knowing it! I love this site too 🙂

I am a teacher as well. I use your stuff almost on a daily basis in the classroom. I have to repost it on my own blog because “Chartporn” is blocked by school district servers. 🙂 It has proven very valuable in teaching social studies or just to prompt conversation with students… THANKS!!!

SOOOOOO agree!!!! Your stuff is posted all over my classroom as well as on my class facebook page. It’s a joy and a treat to check in on your site and then to see the graphically represented ideas filter into the students discussions. So great! Personally I love the commentary about the graphics themselves, the redisigning Napolean’s march was totally illuminating. Thanks so much.

The visuals here are awesome. I am a very visual learner and as a teacher of economics I love to connect visuals to what can be hard to visualize data sets. Thanks very much for this.
