An odd metric for a statistician, but not an odd metric for a journalist. Even though there are a multitude of reasons why someone could be leaving that early, that statistic perfectly captures the water cooler crappy commute comparison conversations to which most readers can relate.

There should be a name for metrics that are imprecise but stir the emotions, like “narrative metric” or something.

Why on earth would you think that was a strange metric? What time in the morning do you think office cleaners, police, shift workers – i.e. large chunks of both blue and white collar jobs – actually start…?
